Team Meeting 4

Last updated: Oct 05, 2020 at 9:19am

Main Lab Objective

Each section will focus on preparation for the upcoming sketch model review. The review is on Friday during class time. Your section should narrow down to two concepts and then be working on details for the two concepts that you have chosen within the team's subtheme.

This team meeting should be focused on running a very efficient meeting so there is time to work on sketch models and complete other tasks.

Advanced preparation for Lab #4

For the complete team
There are no overall team items to prepare.

For your individual section
Make sure that you understand the requirements for the sketch model review and logistics for the presentation.

Each task force should be prepared to give a status report at the start of the team meeting.

The system integrators should prepare an agenda for the lab. In general, please try to circulate the agenda far enough in advance for people to provide feedback on it. Plan to have a meeting that allows a significant amount of time for working on tasks. The information officers should be sure that everyone knows the Zoom link for participating remotely.

What's due

Prepare to explain to your section members what questions you have tried to answer so far, what has been learned, what open questions remain about the concept your task force is working on.

Please remember to keep track of your time on your timesheet as you are working, so that it will be ready to submit after the sketch model review phase.

Recommended Lab #4 Activities

As individual sections
Begin with the standard meeting startup.

Each task force should give a brief status report to the section, indicating what you have completed, what needs to be done, issues that are of concern. Using your work-in-progress (models) as props can facilitate this discussion.

If you have more than two concepts under consideration, have a discussion and follow a formal decision-making process (e.g, pugh chart) to decide which two concepts to move forward with for the sketch model review. Please consider what questions are still unknown about each concept, which concepts are you most likely to be able to resolve unknown questions about, and which concepts are you most likely to be able to test with users, given the current situation.

You want to pick your best options that are driven by user needs. You want to pursue products that have a strong value proposition for a broader population of users or an undeserved community/individual. Product development is different than working on a "pet project". Also, you want to feel ownership of the direction of your idea. Remember that your team will be narrowing down to one concept after the sketch model review. You want to do as much as possible during this sketch model phase to put forward 4 strong concepts as a team and to do the experiments needed to understand the key questions about concept feasibility and testability before you have to make the decision on what your final project will be.

Once your section has decided on two concepts, decide if resources need to be reallocated to different tasks or if new task forces need to be created.

Please use any remaining time to make more progress on your sketch models! Monday teams will have access to the lab facilities during your team meeting and the hour afterwards (office hours) and your team instructors will be available to assist you. Tuesday's team has lab access in the afternoon.

Other notes

All section members that were auditioning for an officer position should have now served in the role, so the section should vote to select the final officers. When the officer positions are finalized please fill out an updated officer information form (resubmit from the dashboard). The information officer should check that the information on the course website regarding officers for your section is up-to-date, and, if not, please submit updates using the dashboard.

Next week's team meetings on Monday are meeting on Tuesday, October 13 (MIT Monday schedule on Tuesday). Pink Team should decide at this week's team meeting when they will meet next week. The chosen time must be one that all team members and team instructors can attend. Team meeting rooms are available Tuesday morning (can be early) or anytime Monday.
